Pioneer State Recreation Area is day use only and has no facilities. This eight-acre area is located 1.5 miles south of Swedeburg in Saunders County.
The area is a former wayside area, which once served as stopping points for highway travelers. Wayside areas were phased out in 1984. Some became modern rest areas while others became state recreation areas. The area has a parking lot, vault latrine and picnic shelters. No camping is allowed. Wahoo, Nebraska
